Clip from a Goodyear promotional film of 1962, "Royal Garden Blues". For all of my love for early traditional jazz, I have an almost inexplicable addiction to Chicago Style (where many of the New Orleans greats went after Storyville was shut down), and what is generically known as the "Condon Gang" or the "Austin High Gang". In this particular set (from a rare Spanish DVD published about a decade ago, which I blessedly have; also includes sets by Louis and Bobby Hackett) my main joy is elicited by (other than Eddie on his -- this is true -- 4-string Gibson, plectrum banjo-tuned, ie, CGBD) Wild Bill Davison on cornet (about a decade before he was known less for his horn than for falling dead drunk out of his chair during performances / recording sessions).

Hot playing, at its best.
