Well, here in Vermont (and Massachusetts) we only have a State sales tax - no county, city, town, or "special" sales taxes. So no need to break them down since they don't exist. Just 6% to the guv'ner.

As is well-known, in neighbo(u)ring New Hampshire there are no sales taxes of any kind. Which is why one finds a bunch of big box stores right across the river. OTOH, they do have a 9% meals and room tax to get all the tourists.

Subject: [Magdalen] Taxes???

I just ordered some DVDs from Warner Archive (highly recommended for olden sorts like myself), and they actually broke down the taxes in a way I've never seen before.

After generic state tax, they did this:

CA COUNTY TAX
$0.13
CA CITY TAX
$0.87
CA SPECIAL TAX
$0.29
CA SPECIAL TAX
$0.58

Wha? Has it always been that way? Or are they just trying to make sure they're being transparent???
