The monthly newsletter of the local ProCathedral came out
today, and it was dominated by the Rector's explanation of
yet another embezzlement problem, this one by the
assistant treasurer.  There was another such event about
ten years ago by the then treasurer.  I don't know how much
they recovered from that event which I think ultimately
may have reached six figures.
 
The current embezzler has admitted to $10,000 lifted from
the parish to his own accounts, but authorities figure the total
will "be much higher."
 
The police have been informed, and are aiding in the
investigation.  The alleged embezzler is being ministered to
and counseled by one of the assistant priests.
 
The problem was detected when the parish switched over to
a new computer system which caught the differences between
pledges and parish records.
 
This is really bad business for the second such situation in
the past decade.  I'm sure this erodes confidence in pledges
to the church.  They've had two substantial bequests that
have kept them afloat.  Stil.....
