I was truly taken aback that he wrote that while on his honeymoon.

The performance was staged in a hockey rink, reworked to look like a
fifties-era night club. I remembered that my thirteenth birthday party was
held in an almost identical venue. My mother took me and twelve of my
closest girlfriends.

Mom would have agreed with Bernstein re: suburbia.
