Indeed.
We are both lucky to have survived major hip surgery.  When I was anintern (now incorporated into the first year of specialty residency) I did
so at a a large charity hospital (Minnneapolis General Hospital).  Allwinter long there were older people that fell on the ubiquitous Minnesotaice and fractured hips.  It was usually a death knell.  Such major surgerywithout modern antibiotics and with the use of piles of pins placed in thebroken bones.  At most, such persons would never again walk. The total hip replacement has really revolutionized hip surgery.
