The schools also cheated. Highly placed university administrators and coaches accepted "payoffs", doctored records and were accomplices to the deception, often for personal gain. It will be interesting to see who knew what and when.

One of the purposes of criminal prosecution is deterrence, to persuade others not to take the risk. Whether or not these cases result in convictions the risk has been highlighted.
