[Magdalen] Taupe?

I heard/read two comments this past week that implied 
it was poor taste for a man to wear a taupe colored suit.  Thiswas especially true, according to these comments, for businessand professional men.
I was surprised by these comments because back in the day whenI was, according to my ex-wife, mother-in-law, and daughter,a genuine "clothes horse," I  had a couple of taupe suits that Iwore to work frequently. 

Taupe/khaki was also the color of the summer uniform of the US ArmyMedical Corps, though I had a few uniforms that were cut of the oldpinkish-khaki hue that the old Army regulars called, simply, "pinks."The pinkish hue was routine for all USA Army officers up through WW-2;
Has anyone else heard this commentary on wearing the taupe color?
