There are probably farmed herds of European deer in Germany, also.  Hunting wild deer
takes on a wholly different tack from the USA.  In Germany, one must be trained and pass agovernmental licensure to hunt.  Further, hunters are in tailored woolens in a sort offorest green color --- actually quite elegant outfits.  The hunting license is rather expensive, and so with the clothes, the training, and the license, hunting is the sport of the wealthy.

The hunt venison belongs to the State, and is sold to the highest bidders.  The Germans
do an excellent job cooking venison, and served with wild berries and other fruit is a real delight. In fact, I'd rather have German cooking than my own native USA fare.  Achtung!

We can have a similar problem over here in the UK. I was at a meeting on Thursday where the organizer wasn't there because he was waiting for his van to be recovered after hitting a deer, quite possibly from a farmed herd.
