>>>> Also our other California friends: Brian, Richard, Mike?
Brian is 60 miles from the nearest fire, but the smoke and air pollution
is awful. I wear a vented N95 respirator whenever I go outside.

According to the maps, Mike is even farther from flame, but I don't know
about air. Probably his air is cleaner because he is closer to the
ocean.
I don't know where Richard lives.<<<
We're fine, as we're an area surrounded by vegetation generally no more than knee-high. As for power shut-off, we're in the cross hairs, but as ours is both generated and distributed from Marina, not too much chance, as, see comment about vegetation in previous sentence. But there's no telling about PG&E. They're not even taking calls; only telling people to watch the website, which is anything but accurate enough to make for comfort. What a glorious few days that'd be for me and the boy. Luckily, we're both into not eating too much these days. (The local grocery stores tell me they have backup generators, but they'd still most likely close for the duration, as the generators apparently only cover the food, not the lighting.)
As for air quality, last night was the first time I smelt even a whiff of smoke. But Brian's right: we got moist, ocean air on our side, though 20 mins from said ocean.
Richard's in Sacramento. Texting with Anna, nothing seems too amiss in that neck of the woods, so far.
I'll just be glad when the "rainy season" starts. (We've already got cool temps around here, especially at night. I put on a coat to do some late-night grocery shopping last night, and I generally never put on a coat, year-round.)
