[Magdalen] Prayers for SC

Thanks, Ann and Rick. 4:45 AM - We have just been awaken by a limb falling
in our driveway right next to our bedroom. Limb, not tree! Our power is
flickering. The 5 AM NHC update indicated Dorian is a Cat 3 storm with 115
mph winds. Apparently, Charleston and surrounding towns will not have
hurricane force winds, but rain will bring flooding. The storm is staying
offshore as it moves up the coast. The South Carolina low country will
have tropical storm winds. Storm surge in Charleston is anticipated to be
very high.

Charleston (25 miles from us) floods regularly in heavy rains, and is
flooding now...I have no statistics on how high the water in Charleston has
risen. Downtown Charleston is a ghost town - people evacuated on Tuesday
of this week.

Summerville, where we live does not. Summerville has a system of canals
which were dug in the 1800s. They do a fairly good job of draining high
water quickly, but they will fill and probably overtop until the rains stop
with the rains.

Our power has already flickered this morning, so we will probably lose it
before the storm moves further up the coast. Do not be concerned if I go
silent. My one worry is that one or more trees will fall on our house.
That happened in Hugo - the top of an oak tree was twisted off and
deposited into our roof. Summerville is a Tree City USA. The first law on
the books in 1847 when the town incorporated protected trees with more than
a 6 inch diameter, making it a misdemeanor to cut trees. We have nearly a
half acre lot with many oaks, both live and deciduous oaks, several close
to the sides of house left and right. We lost all of our pine trees in
Hugo and have not replanted them. We don't want another tree to come into
our house.

TMI, as ever. We are okay. We continue to pray for those in the Bahamas
who are so devastated.

Climate change is science.
