There has been a wet spring in NE Pennsylvania, USA, and yesterday
was a corker. There were thunder storms a rain all night long and a totalof 3,6" in the rain gauge. For the first time in years, there was water inthe basement, as well. Such a delight. Ditches (they call them swales here)are running full, and the Nescopek Creek, about a thousand feet distant,is roaring like Niagara Falls.
I had awakened and sat down on my lounge chair when the power went out. This is not supposed to happen with our heavy duty fairly new electric generator.
Then there were the middle of the night calls to PPL (Pennsylvania Power andLight) and to The Wire Guys, who had installed the generator (Generac). The wire guy fixed temporarily the generator (a part needs replacing) . Inthis condition it was able to power us up.
The power was out from 4 AM to 6 PM. A large oak branch had landed on acritical section of electric power service. It is "Penn's Woods" after all.
Though the preferred name for this event is a "Power Outage," I prefer tolabel it a "Power Outrage".
David Strang.
