Well, chiming in from ~50 miles from where Louise Penny's mysteries
(mostly) take place:

It is indeed helpful to read them at least somewhat in order. The
earlier ones all take place in Three Pines and Gamache is a detective in
the Surete. Later ones have him in various roles and locations.
Personally, I prefer the earlier ones - many of the newer ones have too
much office politics & such, IMHO. Her latest (in paperback) is in my
"to read" pile and takes place in Paris. Also in my pile are "The Old
Patagonian Express" by Paul Theroux, and three Christopher Moore books.
BTW, IMHO all clergy should read his book "Lamb".

As for female Episcopal clergy, there's one which take place in upstate
New York (Diocese of Albany, of all places), by Julia Spencer-Fleming.

Lee is uncovering more: Michelle Blake, author, protagonist is an
Episcopal priest in Boston. Lee hasn't read it yet.

Another she has is Cristina Sumners, author. She hasn't read that one,
either.

You can't miss with old Agatha Christie mysteries, of course.

Up here in VT, Archer Mayor is very popular and his books are all excellent.

If you like the outdoors, Nevada Barr's books are all good - central
character is a female NPS ranger.

And there are lots more, of course.

The Comcast cable guy was just here to replace our DSL with much faster
cable - so far, so good! We are indeed fortunate as only ~20% of the
households in town have access to broadband internet up here in the
boonies of Vermont.
