I joined in the early 1990’s and remember it as Anglicans on Line (have the tee shirt and  “via media, via modem” mug. It was run out of American University, wasn’t it? I was working in the news and publications department of SUNY-ESF (Environmental Science and Forestry) and had internet access via the campus connection. ESF began life as the Syracuse University College of Forestry; I forget exactly the year NYS took it over and it became part of the SUNY system, but it’s essentially part of the SU campus. Anyhow, I had access via ESF/SU and then came the dial-up modem AOL era.
