Many of you have undoubtedly heard about the flooding here in Vermont.
Montpelier, the state capitol, where our parish (Christ Church) is located,
was particularly hard-hit. We're not sure as yet the extent of the damage,
but for certain the basement was completely flooded. That includes offices
we rent out (e. g., to VT Habitat for Humanity), and all the assorted
building infrastructure. Nobody is allowed downtown right now, so we don't
know if the flooding reached the first floor of the parish hall or the nave
itself, both of which are 4-5 ft. above ground level.

News of the flooding even reached the Boston Globe, and you can see one
story here:
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/07/11/metro/montpelier-is-flooded-residents
-scramble-survive/. In the first picture, the canoe is practically right in
front to the church. There are more photos and videos here:
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/07/10/metro/vermont-flooding-photos-and-vid
eos/. Essentially all the pictures in Montpelier were taken within a block
or so of the church.

So - perhaps you could include Christ Church, Montpelier, in your prayers
this week.

Meanwhile, it's sunny today here in Woodbury (about 25 miles N of
Montpelier), after being without power for 14 hours last night. We're on VT
Rt. 14, which is closed a mile north of us due to flooding, and also a mile
or two south of us due to flooding and washouts. So we ain't goin' nowhere
for a while. But we have power and plenty of food (picked 4 pounds of peas
today), so it's not a major problem for us.
