[Magdalen] next Archbishop of Canterbury

On Sunday I was talking with the Archdeacon of Bedford (who happens to
be a diocesan representative on the Crown Nominations Commission for the
next Bishop of St Albans.) I suggested that Canterbury might go to a
woman but he thought it is too early for that as it would split the
Communion. My response was that perhaps it's time to lance the boil and
make such an appointment. Would there ever be a time when a female ABC
would be acceptable in some Provinces of the Communion?

As to the selection of Dame Sarah in particular, I agree she will be
seen as a safe pair of hands who has proved her ability to lead on
difficult questions by being the Lead Bishop during Covid. She has
proved her ability to combine different responsibilities at the same
time and I welcome the news of her appointment.
