One fun thing about borrowing the Chequamegon Bay (Lake Superior)
cabin of a friend was to sit on the red sandstone cliff just below the  
cabin,
and watch the flashing of not one, but two lighthouses and hear their fog  
horns.
 
Chequamegon Bay is one of the few places where lake swimming is  comfortable
though it was strictly due to the top warm layer.  Once deeper  than about 
12' 
lay the frigid Lake Superior water at about 35 F year round.
