[Magdalen] Church layouts, was Re: Religion Without God

Some of our parishioners favor a restoration of the central doors so passers by could see into the church and up to the altar from the street. Right now that's a wall with a life-sized crucifix on the outside and the inscription, "Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by?" And the main door leads into a little foyer with a choice of going left into the narthex or straight ahead to the social hall.

I can think of better uses of money, though, than moving the doors, unless indeed it enhances accessibility. And I'm in the habit of stopping at the crucifix to pray silently, "we adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world." The crucifix does get noticed...every so often I check Flickr to see who else has posted a photo of it.
