My dad taught me to read maps not long after I learned to read. Of course I
had a US map puzzle even before that so I kind of understood them. (But
Florida is *still* pink as far as I'm concerned) Shortly thereafter he
taught me to read a weather map. I taught my kids when they were fairly
little just as he'd taught me. When Adam got into the Army he was appalled
at how many of his fellow recruits couldn't read maps. He was assigned the
fun job of trying to teach them, which caused him to bang his head against
the wall a few times, apparently.
