[Magdalen] Status update

It has been a while since I’ve posted a status update, and now seems like a
good time.

I’ve continued recovering from the surgery, with walking and resuming more
or less normal activities. I saw my surgeon in Boston this last Monday,
and he was encouraging both about the surgery and the overall treatment
plan. The diagnosis was classified as primary peritoneal cancer, a rare
form of cancer, very similar to ovarian cancer, and following the same
treatment regimen.

The next step is chemotherapy, which starts Monday at Cape Cod Hospital’s
cancer center. I’ll have a treatment each Monday for 18 weeks, into
March. In preparation, I had a mediport installed yesterday, eliminating
the need to stick a needle in a vein each time. And I got an iPad mini,
and loaded it up with Kindle books, Netflix, and some music.

I know this is going to be a rough patch. A close friend who has far
outlived her original prognosis has pointed me to this prayer, which I will
be praying each day:

This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make
me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to
stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie
low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it
gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of
Jesus. Amen.

(BCP p 461)

I continue to be grateful for your prayers and support.

Eleanor
