The teevee people like to say Nor-easter, but my grandmother
pronounced it Nawth Eastah. Because the wind came from the
Nawth East, over the Gulf of Maine.
Some People from Maine would insert a breath mark 'Eastah.
Also called a Nawtheast blizzud or a blizzid, depending on where in New
England you learned to speak English.
Then there's the Nantucket Clipper, a heavy fall of snow driven by
winds from the southwest.
