[Magdalen] Thanksgivings Past.

On one of my many driving vacations with my parents about 60 or more years
ago, we stopped at a nice looking place,and espied a blank snake simply
lolling on the ground. "Oh that's our pet snake. He won't hurt you." We
didn't stay there.

Then many years later, I stayed I a wonderful western home on the grounds
of a ranch. The man said, "Be sure to close the door, unless you want the
snakes to visit you." I closed the door, Lady the German Shepherd didn't
bark. No critters in sight when we went for our morning walk. I still
remember the sign--Such and such a city (forget which) Pop. 19. It was way
off the beaten bath in Nevada
