I think the non-negotiable demand for dismissal of the Dean as temper tantrum.
Laws covering "strikes" in the U.S. don’t cover this sort of thing, so the
chance of a successful lawsuit under the circumstance is likely nil.

Speaking of misreading, they were fired for not fulfilling their contract, which
does not include vacation time for objecting to the Dean or his alleged
behavior, I suspect.
And of course, they could have done their "strike" during the summer if they
were not so wrapped up in themselves and aiming to do the most damage.
Again, I think YMMV.
