The last time I road the South Shore was in the early 90's when I lived in
the Hegewisch neighborhood and was an associate pastor at St. Florian's. I
went to Beverly Shores where myfriend Fr Ed McKenna had a summer/year round
home. I may have taken my bike I don't remember. It was a short walk or
ride from the stop to his house. I think I paid a fare at the Station, but
this was AN OFFICIAL STOP--Hegewisch may have been the first stop after
either 63rd or even 12th St. I imagine if the train stopped somewhere you
could get on. I don't remember seeing a conductor either; but I do remember
paying round trip at the station.--it may have been free before Hegewisch
