Reminds me of the Vanguard "launches".

Years later the director of our sheltered workshop was chatting, and
recalled some of his colorful experiences as a kid just getting started in
the machinist business.

One story was that his group was making some cylindrical parts for the
aerospace industry. The part required a very specific tolerance for
internal diameter, and it was obvious that a sort of piston would fit into
it. He observed to his foreman that because of the long handles on the
fittings his lathe was using, there was a lot of "chatter", meaning the
fitting could not hold the cutting tool perfectly steady, so that the
tolerances would not be there. The internal shape would not be reliable,
probably too large.
His foreman, an old salt, just blew it off. "Damn thing ain't gonna fly
anyways."
And when the Vanguard flaked out on the launch pad, John remembered that
conversation, thought OMG, and wanted to hide. Of course nothing ever came
back to his outfit, so far as he was aware.
That explains John always wanting to make sure his workshop's production
always made spec, and then some!
