(in a not-so-chipper moment)I know I went silent on this issue almost immediately after posting an urgent request for prayer, but things were happening so fast that I basically wanted to wait till I had a substantive update. Thanks for the prayers are sincerely offered, though. Much, much thanks.

She now has a therapist, and is under a doctor's care in terms of anti-anxiety medication, which has resulted in her feeling MUCH better, and (after more than a month since her fiance's death) capable of genuine "daily life" and even some laughter. She even credits me with why she is still here. Normally, so she says, when bad things happen, she bolts, runs, and ends up somewhere far away, where she still makes bad decisions and connects with bad choices in men. But when I told her that after nearly 50 years of life and such an admitted history, why not do something different this time and, since you're "back home" for a change, put down at least some roots, give yourself a chance to breathe without bolting, and re-evaluate how you might want to live the second half of your life? She said that was a capital idea, and since that conversation she's gotten a hold of some books on grieving and PTSD (which her therapist says she has, and how), and, so she says, everywhere she looks and listens and reads she's getting that very same message I gave her, over and over and over. So, the lady who said she'd never live in Salinas again because of all the evil that's happened to her here, is working with her was-to-be sis-in-law to purchase her fiance's house which he intended to be her home forever but never managed to get it into a will, ... and hang around for a while, cooling the proverbial jets, as it were.

And all this has led to something even more amazing. Two childhood friends with an admittedly "unique" recent four-year history, relationally speaking, and who haven't seen each other in 31.5 years, will be heading to the Peninsula Sunday for lunch and beach-walking. I get Everett up, fed, and settled for the afternoon, then head out to pick her up around noon, and off we go for a delightful Thai meal and said beach-visit. (You gotta know I love this woman, because I HATE sand!) Sunday will be, in no uncertain terms, an Historic Day.
