For many years I lived the life of a teacher. I lived in academic
communities. I learned first-hand how enriching, how life changing a
school experience can be. I also witnessed other moments when the
balance between Boards, faculty, students and administrators spun out
of control. Our schools in this country are under enormous pressure.
They are over-extended, under-funded, and often neglected. Students
take on crippling debt just to complete their education. Teachers are
asked to do more with less. Knowing all of this as intimately as I do,
I pause to pray for our schools: may the Spirit of wisdom watch over
them all.
