I don't think it was an official change, other than that the 1979 BCP emphasizes the Holy Eucharist as the main Sunday and holy day liturgy. But it's still possible and not unrubrical to have MP as the main service, and the BCP even provides for this by giving OT lessons in Eastertide as alternatives to Acts as the first lesson.
