Well, in my 26-year-old BCP, the principal service begins on the stained
and thrice-taped page! No problem at all finding it!>>>>>

At the risk of being irreverent:

It's easy to go for overkill on the printed word in the BCP's for
Anglicans of all types. Anglicans are always looking down at their
printed worship aids. Even clergy will read the Nicene Creed
off their open Prayer Book.

When I used to be a lector regularly, I would look down at the
congregations and everyone was glued on the scripture as
printed in the service leaflet. I wondered if they had to check on
what I was reading to make sure I got it right.

It is possible to follow a Eucharist just fine without any reference to
printed material. Most Christians (Roman Catholics and Orthodox)
learn to do so at a very early age. RC's gave up their Latin/English
Missals at the time of Vatican-2.

Hymnbooks we will always need in the pew racks, but stressing freedom
from the printed word would eliminate the necessity of juggling two or
more books.

Converts could pick up Anglican worship easily and quickly by just
being exposed to it, and learn any responses orally. I think sometimes
Anglicans go overboard with worship aids - service leaflets, Prayer Books
and one or more hymnals.

I dislike Canon C because it has so many variable responses (Forgive
me Howard!), as well as the Prayers of the People that have variable
responses. Variable responses are not part of either Prayers or Canons
in the RCC.
