for the congregation of for St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Knoxville,
TN, where firefighters are currently battling a large fire that apparently
started in the sanctuary and has destroyed much of it. The fire is
reportedly under control but the extent of damages are of course yet to be
determined. One firefighter was injured when the building's cross fell on
him. Thank god no lives were lost. What is truly heartwarming is the
immediate "How can our church help yours?" coming from churches of all sizes
and all denominations in Knoxville. (4/12)

Obviously the fire is out and the process of cleanup and rebuilding has
begun. However, in the midst of all this, comes news that the church is
seeking to prosecute their former treasurer for theft of funds totaling
nearly a half million dollars. And in a stunning bit of irony, he
apparently told them it would be "too expensive" to install smoke alarms
and a sprinkler system, neither of which were required when the church was
built 50 years ago.
