Jean Nidetch, founder of Weight Watchers, has died at 91.
I rode from Northrop Auditorium on the UM-Minneapolis Campus
to a hotel in downtown Minneapolis with her in about 1978.
The event at Northrop was Opera Week for the Upper Midwest, when
New York City's Metropolitan Opera went on tour to about a half dozen
cities after closing for the season at Lincoln Center.
There was a tremendous electrical storm with pouring rain at curtain down,
and cabs were hard to find, so we doubled up. Jean was as in her
pictures,
a giggling (and of course, slim) blonde.
I'm not sure what she was doing in Minneapolis since she was a
Long Island, NY native, but she apparently liked grand opera.
Sic transit gloria mundi.
