I always liked two things the late Verna Dozier said about the Scriptures. She said the Bible is not the Word of God--Jesus is--and that the word of God is what happens in the space between us and the words on the page. She also pointed out that, while we say that Scripture contains everything necessary for salvation, that doesn't mean that everything IN  Scripture is necessary for salvation.
