[Magdalen] Dog Days.

The term has to do with the position of the Dog Star, Sirius, at this time of the summer. It rises and sets with the sun, and the ancients believed its heat, added to that of the sub, created the hot, sultry weather. Wilstar.com has interesting info. Dog Days are roughly from July 3-August 11.
