[Magdalen] Irish Eyes.

I watched a television travelogue last night about the Greater Dublin  Area.
A surprise to me was that the many Irish interviewed in the course of  the
travelogue had, over and beyond the expected Irish "lilt," rhotic  accents.
In fact, some of the interviewees sounded almost North American.
 
My assumption that Irish accent English was, like RP=Received  
Pronunciation/
BBC English/Oxbridge English, etc., non-rhotic seems obviously  incorrect.
 
I guess it's natural that the Irish don't want to sound like upper  class
