[Magdalen] A bright spot in the day

While I was sitting at my kitchen window observing birds for the Feederwatch Project, the little birds suddenly disappeared and a larger bird appeared in the maple tree. I could tell it was some kind of hawk, but small. It was kind enough to stay put, preening, while I went to grab binoculars and the field guide on my Kindle! Turned out to be a Sharp-shinned Hawk--also called a Sparrow Hawk!! First one I've seen, though there is a resident Red-tailed Hawk here and a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks. It will be interesting to see if it hangs around...
