Curious whether there is a noticeable deposit of burnt candle wax
in Ascension.  The downtown Wilkes-Barre RC parish discontinued
votive candles some years ago because of the damage they were
alleged to have done to the elaborate frescos in the church.
 
The next RC parish church up the line toward Wilkes-Barre has a
Shrine of Saint Jude, and there is a noticeable blackening of the
walls in the vicinity of the Shrine which has a half-dozen votive  racks.
