Some years ago we started having chunks of who-knows-what dropping
from a ventilation grate at the peak of the ceiling high above the
sanctuary, so the freestanding altar would often have gunk on its dust
cover in the morning. Chunks of something were also known to drop
during Mass. The grate and what's above it were cleaned up, and no
problem with that since then. We haven't got frescoes, and the big
stations of the cross were masterfully repainted maybe 10 years ago
and still look good.
