Like many clergy in the UK I use an adviser to complete my tax return.
They know the latest wrinkles on what is, and is not, claimable as a
deduction and where it needs to go on the form. Given the complexities
attendant on living in a parsonage house that is very useful. Simply
turn up with the figures of what you have been paid from various sources
and what your expenditure has been. They put the figures in their
laptop, print off a form for you to sign and they can tell if you have
paid too much or too little tax. It's worth the (non-deductible) cost
for saving hassle and money.
This year is the last time I will use them as next year I will still
need to file to tell them what fees I have received which have been paid
without deduction of tax and the (modest) income from savings and
investments. I should be able to do that myself easily from my own
records once I have registered to file online.
