The local newscast made reference this evening to the infamous
"Valentine's Day Blizzard" which hit Pennsylvania especially bad about  8
years ago.  There was a good coating of ice and then a couple feet  of
blowing snow then.
 
I got home somehow - 23 miles up the mountains - but then was  sidelined
for 4 days because I-81, I-80, and PA 309 were all closed.  I told my  boss
that I was happy to come in to work if she'd send a helicopter for  me.
 
The blizzard caught hundreds of vehicles and trapped them on the  Interstate
System, including a large chunk of the Pennsylvania Legislature who  were
heading back to Harrisburg after a recess.
 
Probably because of the latter, heads rolled, including a new  chief for the
State Highway Commission.
