There were a bunch, but CKLW was the Big 8, the powerhouse Top 40
station, with CKLW 20/20 News and so on. Studios in Windsor but some
talent from Detroit (to a point, as there were Canadian-content laws
and labour laws in play). 20/20 News had newsmen with big voices over
a teletype obligato breathlessly reporting on "rampaging rivers of
rats" found in a burnt-out house or something. Lovely.

The CBC station was CBE 1550, which is now CBC Radio One. CBC Radio
Two is 89.9. I also enjoyed "listening" (but not understanding much)
to CBEF 540, the local French-language CBC affiliate.

There was also CKWW, with lighter Mom-and-Dad music and talk. At night
I could tune in CFRB 1010 from Toronto.
