When the Methodists of my youth talked about the "Gloria" it is
the Gloria Patri referred to above they meant.  It was tacked
onto the Psalm (said by alternate sides of the church by full
verse), and occasionally other readings.
 
The Gloria in Excelsis Deo was in the Methodist Hymnal of the
time (30's 40's, 50's), but it was used once in a blue moon in
the old Anglican manner at the end of the Communion Service.
 
The Methodists of that day were really high church compared to the
UMC liturgies of this day, IMHO.  YMMV.
