When I had my reaction in November, 2013 to the over medication
with blood pressure drugs, the ambulance guy tried to start an IV
on the back of my left hand.
 
It didn't work, and I developed an appalling ecchymotic area covering
the entire back of the hand and wrist.  It was so bad even the  nursing
staff had never seen anything like it.  It took about 3 months to  clear,
and has left me with some residual hyperpigmentation in the area.
