I imagine that new subdivisions pop up in the blink of an eye in much  of
Texas, including the Greater Houston Area.  There has apparently  been
an explosion of population growth.
 
I was only in Houston once (airport) during the olden days when there were  
so
may charter flights.  This was a refueling stop on a Caribbean junket,  from
Minneapolis, I think.
 
It was a clear day, and being a tree person, it seemed to me that the
eastern half of Greater Houston was still in Texas Piney Woods,  whereas
the western half was a sort of chaparral.  But a quick air view is  not
necessarily accurate.
