a hospital ID could look at  the patient record. No longer.

Another change, even in RC hospitals, is the relaxing of the
communion of the patients.
 
In the olden days, a habited nun would come around in the
morning and warn of her approach with a little handbell.  She
usually carried a small lit candle, as well.  Sometimes it was
two nuns.  In RC hospitals, all staff and visitors were expected
to genuflect.
 
Everything on the wards came to a screeching halt until she had
communicated all who desired.
