A former rector spoke of having been a (very young and small acolyte)
accompanying a priest on a hospital visitation. The boy was in charge
of ringing the bell, and once when he did, the several little bells
broke loose from the contraption and rolled musically down the
terrazzo. Everything indeed came to a screeching halt while people
recovered their normal pulse and the bells, now potential
slip-and-fall hazards, had been collected.
