Not quite true - even the smallest rural parish church does do fund raising
in the C of E - at least from my experience where I have been a priest
involved in the leadership of 42 or so different churches since 2001.

People do leave sizable legacies - for example New Romney church was
left a house by a parishioner worth I guess about £300-400K - and that is
just from my own experience.

And even non-church people have been known to leave legacies to the
churches. Giving is not the perogative of the US Churches.

Mind you I will grant you that we don't use as much of our fund raised
money in funding court cases as you appear to be doing in TEC. But I am not
convinced that this prophetic lead is not one that we will soon follow.

Blessings
Martin

England doesn't really have a tradition of giving (like ours). So English
people tend to get very confused about this stuff.

They don't have a tradition of fund-raising, either, which is related and
even more critical.

When I die, I'll be leaving much moolah to the church. My grandmother did
the same. And to the church structured as I know it, not some pretend
church, the Church of the Cagey Usurper.

When I get home later today I'll hunt down an article about a local church
who suffered and then, with the help of the local press and the FBI,
prevailed.
