the Dallas and Dynasty years. Once people began to watch American
television shows, they learned to recognize (and mimic) American
accents.
But I also remember talking with a farmer deep in the country in
Ireland whose simple statement "This is not a county road," had to
be replayed in my head half a dozen times before I ws able to nod
and thank him.
