[Magdalen] Conscience's clause

But in the UK, you cannot as a vicar say no to a male/female couple wishing
to get married, who are either single or one or both are widowed.
One prison chaplain explained it like this: He had to marry a man who had
murdered his three previous wives and was serving time in prison to his
fourth wife (and she knew the man's history) even though the chaplain
vehemently opposed the marriage. (I guess a bit like the women who is trying to
marry Charles Manson)
Had the man been divorced and one of his previous wives was still living,
then the chaplian could have refused

I understand that I can say no to any couple wishing to be married, Just
as
there have been male/female couples I have said "no" to, I imagine there
would be gay couples. If I were a judge, this would be a different matter.
My preference would be for clergy to be "out of" the marriage business, and
provide blessings on unions, much as we do baptisms... in the main Sunday
service....
