A potentially disastrous thing was averted today in my apartment thanks to a smart maintenance fellow. I came back from taking Everett to school only to find both bedrooms without electricity. Checking the breakers found none tripped, and flipping them a few times affected no change. So, bad breaker. I report it, and uncharacteristically get quick, efficient service from the property management. A few more flips from maintenance fellow's hand and the juice was back on, but he knew to tinker a bit longer. With immense fortunateness, the first outlet he randomly unscrewed from the wall indeed was the cause, with a couple hot wires inside, unconnected to anything but touching each other and sparking and causing faulty flow, and of course potentially starting a fire and that would be all she wrote. There's plenty of other outlets that could be in the same shape, but at least now we know what to focus on first, and most likely only, if something similar happens again.
