On March 16, the new and 6th Bishop of Eau Claire was consecrated at
Christ Cathedral in that City. He is +Wiliam Jay Lambert, whose last
position was in Florida. Three other candidates were incumbents in
Wisconsin parishes outside the Eau Claire Diocese. They were all "self-
nominated", unusually, and the position is officially half time. There are
20 parishes in the Eau Claire Diocese.

+Whitmore, 5th Bishop of Eau Claire had resigned for the position of
Assistant Bishop of Atlanta in 2007, and +Leidel had been elected
provisional bishop.

Eau Claire recognized that it was unable to fund the price-tag of a full
time bishop any longer on its own, and had sought to be reunited with
the Diocese of Fond du Lac from which the Eau Claire Diocese was
originally formed. A Fond du Lac vote showed the laity for reunification
but the clergy narrowly opposed.
