Whew!  Upon reading the subject line I feared that something had befallen my favorite cellist, the great Yo-Yo Ma.    

Dr. Strang, living as he does on the East coast north of the Mason-Dixon line, of course has more tolerance for cold temperatures than I do, but I can sympathize with his dismay at a drop of 30-something degrees after a fortnight of balmy 80-degree (F) weather.  Here in central Texas, variations of 30 degrees or so within a single day are not at all unusual in spring and fall, brief as those transitions between winter (such as it is) and summer may be.  Summer here is hot (local legend has it that the Devil was offered a choice between Hell and Texas and took the former), but modern air refrigeration undoes the effect of that.

I dream of summers in the mountains of New Mexico or Colorado (where I went with my parents for vacations in the 1940s) when we stayed in cabins with open windows and pine-scented breezes kept us cool enough that we slept under blankets.
